Going into week six of the three month shopping ban. It hasn’t been too tough…yet. Here is the rundown of what I have spent my money on in the past week (Week five):
Gas – 28.00
Dining out- 25.00
Percentage of income saved this week- 75+%
Since taking my job in Sacramento, my weekly earnings have basically been cut in half, so I was a little nervous to see how I’d manage without the extra income, but it has been quite easy, as this shopping ban has helped! With the exception of bills, which will always be needed to be paid, this was a great week saving for me! I made my last allotted dining out experience this past weekend. I am making friends here in Sacramento, now that I am here more often, but I realized this will be difficult when I want to be more social, which usually means spending more money. I am going to try to keep my 3 outing max for next month. This has been to be the only challenge for me so far.
I haven’t had many days off since I’ve been in Sacramento full time. I am afraid that I will feel the urge to go thrift shopping or lose my mind in a Target soon. I am surprised that I only spent $143 on groceries. I have been telling my partner to not buy groceries, just so I can keep track of how much money we spend on food alone. $143 worth got us through 7 home cooked meals (14 servings total), and at least 7 breakfasts. He only eats breakfast on weekends, and the days that I start at 10am, I make myself a breakfast before heading in to work.
Surprised that I am going stronger than I anticipated, and I haven’t had the urge to breakdown and by a “want.” Fingers crossed it continues to be smooth sailing!
Anyone want to join me? Highly recommend The Year of Less, by Cait Flanders.
